Hi Matt,

Thanks for using Desktop Central Free Windows Tools.
  • Kindly check if the Services of the remote machine you are trying to connect which is accessible and RemComSvc service is present in that machine. If not, then it is a network issue.
  • If there is no problem with the service, then kindly replace the Remcom.exe present in "C:\Program Files (x86)\ManageEngine\ManageEngine Free Tools\Free Windows Tools\DesktopCentralFreeWindowsTools\bin" with the exe attached (rename the attached file from RemCom.txt to RemCom.exe)
Now try Remote Command prompt.  If the problem still persists, write back to us. We will be glad to assist you.

Software inventory tool -- finding computers not in the default Computers OU

$

Hi,

I am trying to see what software is on a particular computer (PS13-nurse).  When I ask the tool to "Get Computers" on domain controller, it only returns those in the default "Computers" OU.  PS13-nurse is not in that OU but inside a different OU (Elementary Computers) and then a sub-OU (PS13)

So a few questions:
  1. Is there a way for the tool to "Get Computers" that are NOT in the default Computers OU?

  2. If not, if I were to move all the computers into the Computers OU but leave them in their sub-OUs, would the tool be able to see them and list them, or find the specific name I type in?  ("Get" all computers in   Computers\Elementary Computers\PS13...or...find and list the software for the computer named PS13-nurse)

  3. Lastly, when I type in the name of the domain controller and click "Get Computers," they appear as listed in the Computers OU.  Is there a way -- in the results window inside the free tool -- to have them list alphabetically?  (I click on the column header but they don't sort and I don't want to have to export to a csv to find what I need.)
Thank you,
Karen

HardDisk Space Detector Tool - Cannot scan Windows Server 2012R2 - Firewall Rule needed

I am trying to scan the hard drive of a Server 2012 R2 machine form my Windows 10 PC

If I disable the firewall on the Server 2012 R2, I can scan, so I'm assuming I need to create a firewall rule.

What rule do I need to get this to work.

I found a FAQ saying that TCP ports 135, 445, 5000, 5001, 5002 need to be open. I tried this, but it still does not work.

Can anyone help me to get this working?

Hi,

Thanks for using Desktop Central Free windows tools.

You need not create any rules related to firewall since we don't have any firewall checks.
We recommend you to try scanning the same machine using other tools like software inventory or remote task manager.

Feel free to contact us, if still the problem exists.

Hi Karen,

Thanks for using Desktop Central Free windows tools

1) Currently, it is not possible to 'Get Computers' that are not in the default computers OU.

2) Even if the computers are moved to the sub level, it is not possible to 'Get computers'. We are yet to handle LDAP query for elementary and sub level OU. To 'Get Computers' we recommend you to move your machines to default OU level.

3) Sorting of computers is currently not supported in this tool.

However, We have considered your requirements and the development is under cooking. We will update you once it is live.

Try Desktop Central product which is free for 25 computers. This will help you with your requirements.

Yes, we do need a firewall rule as the scan works fine when the firewall is disabled.

Thanks,

Anthony
